District 6, Bo-Kaap & Cape Malay Cuisine (Half Day) MALCOK

Overview

Introduction

Your tour will begin with a brief discussion about Apartheid followed by a visit to the District 6 Museum which tells the story of forced removals – the majority being of the so-called coloured community. The tour then takes us to the Bo-Kaap community who managed to avoid forced removal from the central district of Cape Town. One of the most photographed areas of the city is the Bo-Kaap area with its brightly coloured houses. A stroll around the neighbourhood includes a visit to a local spice shop. We then have the priviledge to enter the home of a local community member for a cooking class where you will experience the authenticity of the Bo-Kaap culture and learn how to fold samosas, make roti, chillie bites, and the local Cape Malay Curry. Lunch, made in part by your own hand, is hosted in the home.
