It’s the unexpected encounters with wild animals that make game drives so rewarding and so awe-inspiring. Each one provides a lifetime of memories, plenty of photo opportunities and a deep love and appreciation for ‘where the wild things are’. Today has both a sunrise and a sunset game drive. In between, you are free to spend the day at leisure, or being pampered in the Bush Spa. If you’re feeling more energetic, you could go swimming, take a riverside bush walk, explore the ancient rock formations near-by, or visit the ancient village ruins and San rock paintings. + Day 5

With an early departure including breakfast on-the-go, your destination today is the Pilanesberg National Park for a Big 5 game drive. The 50 000 hectares of this Park are ancient, even by geological time scales, filled with hills, valleys, and broken rock country. Formed by a massive volcanic eruption nearly 1 300 million years ago, it is the site of one of the largest volcanic complexes of its type in the world. The remnants of the explosion can still be seen today. The creation of the Park is considered one of the most ambitious programmes of its kind to be undertaken anywhere in the world. Many long-vanished species were re-introduced so you can expect frequent sightings of the Big 5 on your game drive. The Park is the perfect place to enjoy lunch in the middle of the game drive. Once the game drive is over, it’s back to the Seasons to enjoy the resort’s spa, or for something completely different, settle in at the bird viewing hide. The Magaliesburg is an important bird area with 450 species, including the Cape vulture, black stork, and white-backed night heron, making their home here. Then its time to freshen up for a uniquely South African farewell dinner.
